People left everything they owned and made the effort in going to america where they would find more opportunity and start a new life. It took a few weeks for people to get from Europe to america. They suffered on the boat, shared sleeping, no privacy, dirty accommodations. There was a whole long process till they actually got into the united states but they felt it was worth it.
Wow Chana! We can't believe what these people went through to reach Ellis Island! How lucky we are to be born and bred Americans!
