People left everything they owned and made the effort in going to america where they would find more opportunity and start a new life. It took a few weeks for people to get from Europe to america. They suffered on the boat, shared sleeping, no privacy, dirty accommodations. There was a whole long process till they actually got into the united states but they felt it was worth it.
